Celebrating Community Spirit: A Summer of Joy and Connection

This summer, our community came together in vibrant celebration through a series of fantastic activities led by local organisations in partnership with residents and Westminster Council. From the Church Street history exhibition, hosted by Mosaic Community Trust, showcasing the history of Church Street and TARA’s summer extravaganza. These events brought neighbours of all ages closer and filled our neighbourhood with joy and pride.

The Summer Family Mini-Olympics was a an epic affair, engaging families and local community groups in friendly competition and active fun, fostering community spirit and wellness.

Put together by the Community Health & Wellbeing workers with the support of Berkeley Homes and community partners, offering free activities, sharing giveaways, running engaging stalls, or simply connecting with residents – it helped create a warm, welcoming space that truly brought our community together.

We also wanted to say a big thank you to all our community partners who took part in the monthly community markets. These markets will resume next spring. Updates on dates for those can be found in upcoming newsletters and our Facebook page. Just search my church street

CHURCH STREET MASQUERADE 2025

Dendê Collective’s two-week programme at Penfold Community Hub brought together 33 participants to create 11 giant papier-mâché masks – the first time the project has worked at this scale. Around 20 people joined each session, and 27 took part in the final performance on 30 August, wearing both new and previous masks.

The Masquerade was funded by Derwent London’s Community Fund West and presented as part of Westminster City Council’s Inside Out Festival. The parade transformed Church Street Market into a carnival-style celebration, with masked groups surprising shoppers, interacting with passers-by, paying a special visit to Eden House balcony, and finishing with a joyful finale parade along the market.

SITE B & C CO-DESIGN LAUNCHES

This month we begin the launch of the Site B & C co-design. We want the regeneration plans for Church Street to deliver the new homes and community facilities the neighbourhood needs.

At the same time, we want to review the existing designs and work with the community to make sure they meet the expectations of residents.

Residents, businesses and other key stakeholders have been invited to our co-design workshops which will run from September to November, working alongside our design team. This includes re-examining elements of the existing plans and detailed design work.

The process will take place in stages, and relies on collaboration between residents, businesses and our teams, setting priorities and exploring designs to agreeing shared outcomes together. This will help shape the future of these sites.

“The Quiz” Brings Game Show Magic to Life  - Cockpit Theatre x London Youth Theatre

In August, the Cockpit Theatre and London Youth Theatre joined forces to deliver a dazzling twonight event that had audiences on the edge of their seats. “THE QUIZ: ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’” was a bold and brilliant reimagining of the iconic game show, brought to life on stage with flair, fun, and fantastic performances. Young talent took centre stage, transforming the familiar quiz format into a theatrical spectacle filled with suspense, humour, and audience participation.

Highlights included:

  • A fully immersive set recreating the game show atmosphere
  • Youth performers stepping into the roles of contestants, hosts, and audience members
  • Live trivia challenges that kept everyone guessing
  • A celebration of creativity, confidence, and collaboration

This event was more than just a performance – it was a showcase of what happens when young voices are given the spotlight and the stage.

This event was funded by the Church Street Partnership.
