Church Street Crafty Christmas fair & Light Switch on

On a beautiful winter afternoon, Church Street Triangle was lit up with community festive spirit with our Crafty Christmas Fair on Sunday 30 November.

Residents, community partners, Westminster City Council staff and invited guests came out to celebrate the official launch of Christmas in Church Street. It was great to see so many families enjoying the festive activities, live music from our two amazing live bands and hot drinks and snacks. The event highlight was the Lord Mayor switching on the lights.

Thank you to our community partners Mosaic Community Trust, St Paul’s Church, Marylebone Fourth Feathers and Community Health & Wellbeing Champions, our sponsors Mount Anvil, Arbeit for the use of the Triangle Cafe, the performers Smoking Mirrors and Alvar Treefrog, the Lord Mayor and pupils from Gateway Academy, King Soloman Academy, Christ Church Bendict and St Edwards Primary School who decorated the baubles on the Church Street Christmas Tree. Also, thank you to our ward Councillors (Cllr Less, Cllr Toki, and Cllr Noble) for supporting the Christmas spirit on Church Street, who funded lights and a tree from the ward budget.

And lastly, thank you to residents who came to talk to the Site B and C design team following on from our recent co-design sessions and hearing thoughts from the wider community.

Floating Classroom

A group of year 2 children from Gateway Academy had a class with a difference. They spent the morning on a ‘floating classroom’ which is a canal boat that goes down Regents Canal, while teaching you about the surrounding wildlife and green space.

Children were able to go out onto the deck and spot the wildlife that inhabit the canal and see how many they could identify.

The Floating Classroom is a great way to engage children with their natural surroundings getting them out of the classroom and into nature.

This was funded by the Church Street Partnership, the joint venture between Westminster City Council and Mount Anvil which is building homes and a library on Site A.

Site B & C Community Conversations with Mosaic Community Trust

As a part of the co-design process of Sites B and C, the Design Team (led by Hunters Architects, Angela Koch and Westminster City Council) took part in a series of community conversations one of which was with Mosaic Community Trust. Lena Choudrary-Salter, CEO of MCT said:

“The Mosaic Community Trust is committed to empowering global majority women and amplifying their voices, particularly when it comes to the regeneration of our Church Street neighbourhood. That’s why we were delighted when Hunters Architects and the Council’s Regeneration Team asked to come and talk to our service users as a part of the co-design process of Sites B and C.”

MCT welcomed the team to the Portman Early Childhood Centre on 10 November to present its plans for sites B and C to a wide audience of 40 women.

The changes that Hunters and the council are proposing to the previous plans were broadly welcomed by the participants who were impressed by the culturally sensitive, transparent and friendly presentation. Mosaic continues to deliver its One Stop services, generously funded by the Church Street Partnership (the joint venture between Westminster City Council and Mount Anvil which is building Site A) and remains committed to supporting a Health & Wellbeing Hub worthy of its name.
