Residents Help Name New Street

As new buildings, community spaces and roads start to rise from the ground at Site A, we asked Church Street residents to help us name these new parts of the neighbourhood. Residents joined a workshop on 23 September to share their ideas for the new street and public green spaces, the first to be created as part of the major regeneration project.

In collaboration with the project's landscape architects, residents discussed planting ideas and how the new public spaces could reflect Church Street's culture, character and history.

Following the ‘nature’ theme, which was chosen by residents, street names inspired by the diverse plant life and environments reflecting Church Street's different communities were suggested by attendees. This followed the same process used when shortlisting building names for Site A.

Feedback from the session will help shape the look, feel and identity of Site A.

Council Teams and Partners Work Together to Respond to Local Issues

As part of our commitment to tackling crime and antisocial behaviour, the local safer neighbourhood police team partnered with council officers to hold a ‘Day of Action’ at Church Street.

Held on 16 September, the Council’s Neighbourhood Coordinator and Senior City Inspector led the multi-agency project across known hotspots in the Church Street area. Officers from the Markets Team, Parking Services, PACT (Police and Council Tasking Team), Veolia, the Regeneration Team, Economy and the Church Street Safer Neighbourhood Team all took part.

The operation focused on environmental crime and anti-social behaviour with teams removing fly-tipped waste, including mattresses, cleared items stored in shopping trolleys and with police support, recovered and returned Tesco trolleys that had been misused. Police officers also spoke with people drinking in the street or gathering in hotspot locations.

The Day of Action also gave officers a chance to share information and discuss the challenges they see on the ground. This will help services consider where closer joint working could support a more coordinated response. There is no single solution to these issues, but the day delivered positive results and showed the value of services working together to build a shared understanding and respond in a more joined-up way.

To report rough sleeping, contact StreetLink on 0300 500 0914 or visit Street Link Fly-tipping and other environmental issues can be reported through Westminster City Council’s Report It service.

Street Link can be used by anyone in England & Wales. Alerts are sent to outreach teams. Call 999 if the person needs emergency help or is under 18.

Celebrate Local Creativity: Vote For Lisson Grove Studios

Our new affordable workspace Lisson Grove Studios has been nominated for the Workplace of the year category at the New London Architecture Awards. Located in the ground floor and basement areas of the Daventry House supported housing scheme and operated by Arbeit Studios, the new space is thriving with a mix of local creatives and professional services.

Occupiers include fine artists, furniture designers, videographers and photographers, as well as a wellness space and travel agents. The gallery space regularly hosts events and exhibitions, and a coffee shop will open soon to cater to tenants and residents.

An artist based at the studios says he’s “more productive with a purpose-built studio with fantastic facilities in easy reach of where I live. Also to connect with a new network of artists in the building as well as galleries, architects, designers and makers in the area”.

It only takes one minute to vote by completing the form via the QR code– enter your name, email, tick ‘Workplace’, ‘Lisson Grove’ and ‘submit’ and that’s it!

Deadline: 9 October.

Winning this award would shine a spotlight on the area, the building and the wonderful people working at Lisson Grove Studios.

Have Your Say On The Future Of St Mary's Hospital

Find out about plans for the future of St Mary's Hospital and share your views at a public exhibition at Church Street Library, Saturday 24 October.

The exhibition is part of the second phase of consultation on plans for a new St Mary's Hospital campus. The plans aim to meet future healthcare needs, improve people's experience of the hospital and support research. Earlier feedback has helped shape the plans. Priorities include protecting hospital services, improving access and creating welcoming public spaces.

The plans respond to ageing buildings, structural problems and growing demand for healthcare. They also include better walking routes, landscaping and public spaces to create a greener, better-connected area.

At the exhibition, you can view the plans and speak to the project team. You can also find out how local feedback will shape the next stage before a planning application is submitted.

Church Street residents are encouraged to attend, ask questions and share their views.
