What's in a Name - Site A Block Naming

You will hopefully have seen members of the Regeneration Team carrying out consultations on the new names for the Site A Blocks. We’d like to thank everyone who has taken the time to contribute their ideas. We had some really good engagement both at the HAFS Summer Festival and Church Street Market monthly community stall as well as people submitting online.

What’s next?

We have now selected the top three themes and want you to select which of them you like most The themes are listed below along with illustrative examples of what the names could be:

Local Characters:

  • Joe Hegarty – former local councillor who
chaired the Church Street Futures Group
  • Henry Sylvester Williams – first elected
Global Majority councillor in Westminster

Local area and the market:

  • Merchants
  • Barrow

Nature linked to heritage of the local community:

  • Cedar
  • Jasmin

How do I get involved?

You can vote online at churchstreet.org/theme_and_naming_vote, come to our coffee morning on Wednesday 18 June at the Regeneration Space or come and see us at our community events:

HAFS Summer Festival

The sun was out and so was the local community of Church Street to enjoy a day of fun, food and activities on a beautiful Sunday afternoon for the HAFS Summer Festival.

Fairground rides, face painting, food stalls and local activities were all on show. There was something for everyone. It was a lovely afternoon and great community event. There was even a surprise appearance from our former Lord Mayor, Cllr Hamza Taouzzale. Thanks to HAFS for putting on such a great event which has become one of the main events on the Church Street calendar.

Name The Muncher Competition Winners Visit Site

The lucky winners of the Name the Muncher competition arrived on site to see the muncher in action on Friday 9 May with both the winning name ‘Angry Alex’ and runner-up ‘Honey Cruncher’ displayed on the side.

As well as seeing what the muncher can do, they got to take pictures next to the muncher and got to keep their hard hat and hi-vis jacket as a souvenir of their visit. We think Keltbray have found some new recruits. Thank you, Caroline and Adrian, from Keltbray for helping to organise this special visit to Site A demolition.

Well done to Laith, Sabine, Matias and Filippo.

WEPT – Local Community Project
in Church Street
WEPT (Women’s Empowerment Project and Training) is a Social Enterprise launched in 2014 and has been in Church Street for over five years.
WEPT co-founder Vanessa found that after living abroad for several years, finding meaningful work in London was not as easy as she thought, so she decided to start her own business.

Having a background in fashion and design, she wanted to use her knowledge and experience to teach women fashion and textile skills to promote sustainability and wellbeing. WEPT offers sewing and textile courses at Triangle Studios on Church Street. Check out its website for upcoming courses: weptproject.co.uk
