Church Street Masquerade Brings Colour, Creativity And Community Together

From 10 to 15 August, Church Street came alive with colour, music and creativity as residents took part in the annual Church Street Masquerade, delivered by Dendê Collective as part of Westminster’s Inside Out Festival.

Over five days, local residents joined free creative workshops at Penfold Age Well Centre, designing and making giant masks and costumes, learning performance skills and helping to prepare for a community walkabout. Participants came together to share ideas, learn new skills and celebrate the diverse cultures that make Church Street unique.

The week culminated in a vibrant masquerade performance through the neighbourhood, showcasing the creativity and enthusiasm of residents. The event transformed Church Street into a lively celebration of community spirit, with colourful costumes, striking masks and joyful performances enjoyed by participants and spectators.

A big thank you to everyone who took part and helped make the Church Street Masquerade such a memorable event.

Community Comes Together For Church Street Design Day

Thank you to everyone who came to our recent Design Day and helped shape the future of Sites B and C in Church Street. Residents, businesses, traders, community groups and local visitors came along to see the latest plans for Sites B and C and share their views on the designs.

Over the past year, the project team has worked closely with the local community to develop the Stage One design brief and concept designs. The Design Day gave local people the opportunity to see the progress made so far and provide feedback on the emerging proposals.

People viewed the latest plans, spoke to the design team and shared what they liked, what could be improved and what local people need. This feedback will help shape the next stage of the design. This builds on the collaborative work that has taken place over the past 12 months.

Residents from the CSRCG have recently visited visual mockups of Site A. These visual mockups show what key parts of the new building will look like.

Upcoming Thames Water works on Penfold Street

We'd like to let residents know that Thames Water has scheduled works on Penfold Street for Monday 27 July, 1pm -5pm. A Thames Water Technician will attend to operate a valve in the carriage way and access the water supply ahead of planned disconnection.

Following this visit, the work will be passed onto the repairs team who will either remove the unused section of water main, or explore the installation of a new fire hydrant to help maintain protection in the area.

There may be some temporary activity on site whilst these works are carried out. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

This is a notice to update residents of an out-of-hours delivery of machinery to Church Street Site A scheduled for Monday 27 July.

Site A will see 430 new homes built. 215 of these new homes will be affordable, with 70% of these affordable homes let at Social Rent. Site A will also be home to a new library and new spaces for shops.

• The delivery of two piling rig machines to site is scheduled between 5:00-6:00am, with the aim to be off site before 7:00am.
• Due to its large size, the delivery needs to take place outside normal working hours for safety reasons. This has been agreed with Westminster City Council via approved section 61 notice
• The delivery of these machines will enable the piling phase of the construction works to continue. Piling is the process of driving or drilling massive poles (called "piles") deep into the earth to act as the hidden legs of a building. It is used when the top layer of ground is too soft or weak to hold the heavy weight of a structure

Please be assured that noise will be kept to a minimum, with specific positioning of the delivery trailer ensuring minimal disruption. There will be no need for any other movement until working hours commence at 8:00am.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us at our Sites B and C Design Day.  

We were delighted to welcome more than 200 people from the local community throughout the day to explore the emerging designs, speak with the project team, share ideas and feedback, and enjoy the activities, refreshments and ice cream. 

Westminster City Council has launched a Street Trading and Market Consultation and would like to hear your views.

The consultation sets out draft proposals of how street trading and markets are licensed, managed, charged and supported across Westminster covering council-managed markets and wider street trading activity.

Your feedback will help shape how trading and markets operate across Westminster in the future.

The consultation is now open until 23.59 on Sunday 30 August.
